Pilarcita's Dry Marinades and Spice Blends

As a child my fondest memories are of the family

(All Mexicans which translates into a hell of a lot of people and the occasional guero aka blondie, white one) gathered together for drinks (tequila, cerveza, and the all important margarita), family gossip (everyone knows everything in this Mexican Soap Opera) and most important incredibly delicious meals prepared and served by my Great Grandma Pilar.Years before my time the Country of Mexico was extremely dangerous (still is if you drink the water) and story after story has been told including this tale recounted by my grandmother (daughter of Pilar) as she remembers that time.

Sonora Mexico 1930's

It was a dangerous place when the banditos came to town. The townspeople were fearful as the outlaws rode in, robbing and pillaging the penniless Mexican citizens. Crime was uncontrollable and it was time to bring in the Forces. A crime fighter know as El Jefe (The Big Boss) and his posse of men stormed in to clean up the crime-infested village. No jury, no trial, the accused were caught and hung like a piñata from the nearest tree. With their mission complete, it was time to move on to the next village, but a rest and a good meal were vital. El Jefe and his men would ride on to Pilarcita's house for the bounty of food she would create in her modest home. Mexican dishes, marinades, soups and other mouth-pleasing treasures were created specially for these men that the townspeople owed so much.

Please join my family and cook up some of these savory recipes for your family today.

Con Gusto!

Today the family still gathers together but instead of Great Grandma Pilar (she passed on to the big kitchen in the sky, somebody has to cook for El Jefe) cooking up a storm the vacancy has been filled by me, my mom and anyone else that wants to step in and throw around a little bit of food and creativity.
